A Tibetan ethnic pendant
A vintage sterling grade silver two-tiered Tibetan ghau pendant. A ghau or gau or ga’u is an amulet or prayer /relic box. The tapered rectangular ethnic pendant has a turquoise piece surrounded by a border of carnelian pieces set at its centre. This centre is then surrounded by silver swirl decoration inside a mosaic border of turquoise pieces. The outer edge is decorated with a fine double silver rope border. The pendant has the customary cylindrical chain bale at the top and below for hanging further pieces. 70 x 58 x 14 mm, weight 57.1 gm.
