A fibula or Tabzimit tribal pendant

$ 695.00

This wonderful tribal pendant/brooch from the Greater Kabylia region of Algeria is known as a Fibula or Tabzimit. They are made in many different shapes, sizes, and designs and are traditional jewellery brooches worn by the Berber people of North Africa to pin their robes. This vintage brooch can also be worn as a pendant as our images show. This fine example is made of high-quality silver (80%) decorated with superb cloisonn style, blue, green and mustard yellow enamel work throughout, front and back. The front is also multi-claw set with 5 pieces of old Mediterranean coral as is each of the nine pendants suspended below. Many fibulae are exceptionally large and while highly collectable are impractical for modern day ware. This example is particularly appealing not only for its beauty and craftsmanship but also because of its practical size. The main disc measures 75 mm in diameter, its total height is 133 mm and it weighs 122 gm. Fine quality examples such as this are becoming rare, once sold I very much doubt I will be able to find another of similar quality at this price. If you would like a silver necklet chain to go with this piece please see Tribal Necklaces.
